It is estimated that there is now over 1.3 million people aged over 75 years in Australia requiring some level of aged care support. Over the next 10-15 years this number will increase dramatically. Most people when they first need aged care support think they will need to move into a nursing home. Along the way, there will be a discovery that home care packages exist, but there is confusion around the options and the choices.
Upon further investigation you learn that the process to access a government funded package involves a doctor’s assessment, followed by an ACAT/ACAS assessment in your home, and then waiting many months to receive a home care package (after being on a provider’s waiting list for many months). The whole problem is that demand for home care packages far exceeds the number available, which means long waiting lists.
As part of our Client For Life program we will organise a family support meeting to discuss physical, emotional and financial requirements (as part of the planning process), and then to work with you to help secure a home care package as early as possible. In between, you may need some private home care until a package becomes available.
