We have been talking a lot about changes you and your loved ones can make to work on a healthier, longer life. While health is very important, we also believe it is important to ensure that you and your aging loved one live a happy life as well!
Aging, caregiving, family, and work can all cause major stress in your life. Stress can lead to bigger health problems, including depression. If you or your aging loved one begins to feel symptoms of depression (loss of energy, sleep changes, weight change, etc.) it’s important to consultant your physician. You should also try these simple steps to a happier life:
Exercise – Although exercise may seem like a chore, it is actually a great way to relieve stress and anxiety! You don’t have the hit the weights to get a workout, either! Try a dance class or swimming for lower impact workouts.
Socialize – Keeping in touch with old friends and making new friends is a great way to bring more joy into your life. Making plans with friends gives you and your loved one something to look forward to and something to brighten your mood!
Breathe – When you feel stress or depression start to kick in, take a break and take a deep breath in. Breathing is a natural way to relieve stress and calm your mind and body.
Working towards a happier life will not only improve your mood, but also your health and relationships. So, smile!
